Naia T3 power outage due to MServ procedural lapse

A 37-minute power outage at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 3 on Friday, June 9, 2023, was caused by grounding conductors accidentally left attached to electrical equipment during testing activities.

The incident, which occurred from 12:51 p.m. to 1:28 p.m., was attributed to a procedural lapse by MServ, a subsidiary of Meralco, which was conducting an electrical audit.

Commercial power was restored by 1:29 p.m. by Meralco, and officials have apologized for the inconvenience.

Seven flights were delayed, but none were canceled, though a buildup of passengers occurred due to system reboots.

This is the third power interruption at Naia Terminal 3 this year, with previous incidents on New Year's Day and Labor Day.

Senator Grace Poe has called for urgent power augmentation and technical oversight from MIAA management to minimize human errors.
