Minority bloc to work with Lacson as Blue Ribbon Committee chair

Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano stated that the minority bloc will continue working with Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson following the announcement of Lacson's return as chair of the Blue Ribbon Committee.

Cayetano emphasized that the important aspect is agreeing on a clear direction and fair ground rules for the committee, regardless of who chairs it or the changes in leadership.

He assured that the minority respects the majority's decision regarding the committee leadership and will cooperate with Lacson due to the high stakes for the nation.

Cayetano highlighted that the Blue Ribbon Committee's power resides in its integrity, ensuring that uncovering the truth and the methods used are beyond politics and personal agendas.

He contrasted the "easy path" of using hearings for political points with the "harder but more necessary path" of exposing masterminds of corruption and pushing for systemic reforms.

Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III had announced on Tuesday that Lacson would be reinstated as head of the committee, weeks after his resignation amid its investigation into anomalous flood control projects.
