Metro Manila COVID-19 alert level downgrade possible amid downtrend

Malacañang stated that the easing of COVID-19 Alert Level in Metro Manila is possible if the downtrend in cases and healthcare utilization continues, but urged the public not to let their guard down.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque emphasized that vigilance is necessary, especially with the upcoming Christmas season which could lead to a surge in infections.

The government is awaiting further decrease in the average daily attack rate from 7.7 to 7 before considering a lower alert level.

However, MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos believes that Metro Manila's downgrade to Alert Level 2 is near, stating that the region passed the metrics for ICU and isolation ward availability and the number of active cases.

Abalos noted that Metro Manila's latest average daily attack rate was 7.4, just slightly above the acceptable 7 percent for Alert Level 2.

Metro Manila is currently under Alert Level 3 until November 14.

Under Alert Level 3, establishments like restaurants, gyms, and cinemas are permitted to operate at 30% indoor capacity for fully vaccinated individuals and 50% outdoor capacity, with all employees required to be fully vaccinated.
