Mayor Alice Guo denies being Chinese spy in House inquiry

Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo became agitated during a House inquiry when confronted with excerpts from an Al Jazeera documentary alleging she is a Chinese spy.

The documentary featured Chinese national She Zhijiang, a detained criminal gambling leader in Thailand, who identified Guo as a spy and claimed they both worked for China's Ministry of State Security, identifying her supposed real Chinese name as Guo Hua Ping.

She Zhijiang presented files, including a dossier with a Fujian province address allegedly linked to the Chinese Communist Party, which contradicted Guo's previous statements about her background.

Surigao del Norte 2nd district Rep. Robert Ace Barbers described Guo's reaction as that of someone who got exposed, noting she appeared agitated and threatened to sue She and Al Jazeera.

Guo maintained she did not know She Zhijiang and denied being the person in the dossier, insisting she is Filipino.

Senator Francis Tolentino mentioned Guo would be questioned further in a Senate executive session, while Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero suggested the Department of Justice (DOJ) should lead the investigation into the documentary's claims.
