Mandaluyong barangay offers P1 for every five mosquitoes caught

Barangay Addition Hills in Mandaluyong City is offering P1 for every five mosquitoes or larvae caught or killed to combat the rise in dengue cases.

Residents can surrender the insects and larvae, dead or alive, to the barangay hall, where they will be stored and killed.

The "May piso sa mosquito" program aims to eliminate Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which spread the virus.

Barangay Captain Carlito Cerlan explained that while the program might seem counterproductive, the mosquitoes do not need to be alive.

Live mosquitoes will be placed in a chamber with a mosquito zapper, while larvae will be killed using chemicals.

Cerlan stated the program is temporary and will be lifted once the City Health Office reports a decrease in dengue cases.

The Department of Health continues to advocate for the 4S strategy against dengue, and an infectious disease expert urged the public to seek immediate medical attention if they exhibit dengue symptoms.
