Makati Med reaches full COVID-19 capacity

Makati Medical Center (MMC) has announced that it has reached its full capacity for accommodating COVID-19 patients.

The hospital stated it can no longer provide the same level of care for additional COVID-19 cases due to its current limitations.

Dr. Saturnino Javier, MMC medical director, explained that while the Emergency Department can offer preliminary evaluations, admission to a room cannot be guaranteed.

MMC will make efforts to find alternative healthcare facilities for patients needing admission.

The decision came after an assessment of the hospital's bed capacity, staff availability, and supplies of infection prevention equipment.

Currently, MMC is caring for nearly 70 in-patients, including some frontline healthcare workers, with 15 percent in the Intensive Care Unit.

Since the outbreak, MMC has treated approximately 700 patients suspected of having COVID-19.

Other hospitals, including The Medical City and St. Luke's Medical Center, have also reported exceeding their capacity for COVID-19 cases.
