Pagasa forecasts rains across PH due to SW monsoon, LPA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasts rains over most of the country on Independence Day, June 12, due to the southwest monsoon and a low-pressure area (LPA).

The LPA was last seen 235 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan and has a high probability of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours.

Moderate to heavy rains, ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall, are expected to persist in Batanes, Cagayan, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.

Pagasa warned that forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas and that impacts may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall.

Occidental Mindoro, Zambales, and Bataan will experience monsoon rains with potential for flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.

Metro Manila, La Union, Benguet, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Palawan, and Antique can expect occasional rains with similar risks.

Batanes and Cagayan will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the LPA, with a risk of flash floods or landslides.

The rest of Luzon and Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte will also experience scattered rains and thunderstorms.
