LPA east of Mindanao may become tropical depression in 24 hours

A low pressure area (LPA) east of northeastern Mindanao has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.

The LPA was last spotted 2,235 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

It is forecast to potentially enter the PAR on Tuesday, possibly intensifying into a tropical depression within 24 hours of entry and moving towards the Cagayan Valley region.

PAGASA noted that there remains a high degree of uncertainty regarding the LPA's exact track and development.

Meanwhile, Severe Tropical Storm Nika, with maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 125 kph, is undergoing rapid intensification and could reach typhoon category.

Nika was last seen 690 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon, moving north-northwestward at 30 kph.
