Laguna under ECQ until Aug 20 amid rising COVID-19 cases

Laguna has been placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until August 20, 2021, reverting its classification from modified ECQ (MECQ).

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) made this decision upon the recommendation of the Department of the Interior and Local Government and after consultations with Laguna's local government.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque announced the change, stating the ECQ is to curb the further spread of COVID-19 and its variants and to slow down the surge of COVID-19 cases.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported 14,249 new cases on Saturday, the second highest recorded infections in a single day, bringing the country's total COVID-19 caseload to 1,727,231.

The country's total death toll due to COVID-19 was at 30,070, while total recoveries were at 1,598,314.
