Lagman: Malacañang silence on Myanmar shows support for militarization

Albay Representative Edcel Lagman stated that Malacañang's silence on the Myanmar crisis indicates support for government "militarization."

Lagman believes the Duterte administration's indifference validates the militarization of the government and its repressive policies, such as the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020, ongoing red-tagging, and the abrogation of the UP-DND accord.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque dismissed Lagman's statement as a personal opinion and noted Lagman's opposition to the current government.

Roque previously announced that the Armed Forces of the Philippines' air and sea assets are on standby for the repatriation of Filipinos in Myanmar.

Myanmar's military seized power and detained de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other officials, citing claims of vote fraud in the November election.
