Japan donates over 1M AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine doses to PH

The Philippines received a donation of 1,065,600 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from Japan on Saturday, October 30, 2021.

An additional 1,546,200 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine also arrived via the COVAX Facility on the same day.

National Task Force Against COVID-19 special adviser Dr. Teodoro Herbosa stated that the donated vaccines will be deployed to densely populated areas outside the National Capital Region, including Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Eastern Visayas, and Northern Mindanao.

He noted that the Philippines is the third largest recipient of COVAX vaccines, emphasizing the importance of administering these doses to Filipinos.

Herbosa reiterated the goal to increase daily vaccinations to 1.5 million doses.

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. stated that the Philippines anticipates receiving 50 to 60 million vaccine doses by the end of the year.
