Hinundayan suspends LSI acceptance amid full quarantine facilities

The local government of Hinundayan in Southern Leyte has suspended the acceptance of locally stranded individuals (LSIs) for one week, from August 3 to 9, due to quarantine facilities reaching full capacity.

Mayor Elisa Cadingan stated that the suspension is necessary to allow current returnees in quarantine centers to complete their 21-day isolation and vacate the facilities.

The town's quarantine centers are currently at maximum capacity with 102 individuals, including LSIs and returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

Hinundayan has maintained zero COVID-19 cases to date, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

Eastern Visayas has recorded a total of 863 COVID-19 cases, with 658 recoveries and three deaths.

The DOH attributes the recent surge in infections in the region to the testing of returning OFWs and LSIs, predominantly from Metro Manila and Cebu.
