The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is facilitating the return of 8,408 locally stranded individuals (LSIs) to their home provinces this weekend, July 25 to 26.

These LSIs are currently gathered at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, having previously stayed at various public facilities including the Philippine Army Gymnasium and Manila Science High School.

Before their return, the LSIs will undergo rapid antibody testing, with only those testing negative permitted to travel.

The DILG will provide transportation through 120 buses, 5 government ships, and Philippine National Railways trains.

LSIs whose hometowns are not yet accepting returning residents will be moved to a housing facility in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.

The DILG has delegated the task of providing swab testing to LSIs to the receiving local governments.

This initiative follows concerns about previous returnee programs potentially causing spikes in COVID-19 cases in some provinces.
