Feast of Jesus Nazareno declared national liturgical feast

The Feast of Jesus Nazareno will be celebrated nationwide for the first time in the Philippines, according to an official from Quiapo Church.

Quiapo Church Rector and Bishop-elect Jun Sescon Jr. announced that this year's celebration is historical and will be referred to as a "liturgical feast."

Activities for the feast will commence on January 9, and the celebration has been disseminated to all dioceses and parishes across the country.

The application to declare the Feast of Jesus Nazareno as a national feast, along with the application to declare Quiapo Church as a national shrine, has been submitted to the Vatican.

This makes the Feast of Jesus Nazareno one of the national feasts unique to the Philippines, alongside the Feast of Santo Niño.

The National Capital Region Police Office is deploying over 14,000 personnel to ensure safety and security during the event in Quiapo, Manila.
