FDA okays Sinovac vaccine for kids aged 6 and above

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the emergency use authorization for the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine for individuals aged six and above on March 11.

Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje confirmed that the formulation and dosage for children aged six to 17 will be the same as for adults.

Implementing guidelines are being drafted by vaccine experts, with the vaccine intended for healthy children.

A total of 1,233,017 children aged 5 to 11 years old have been inoculated against Covid-19 since February 7, with 381,433 fully vaccinated.

Meantime, there are 9.7 million vaccinated 12-to-17-year-olds.

Previously, only Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines were approved for minors aged 12 to 17, and Pfizer-BioNTech for children aged five to 11.
