Bacolod City is expecting the arrival of an additional 30,000 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines specifically for children aged 5 to 11 this week.
Dr. Chris Sorongon, deputy of the Emergency Operations Center Task Force, stated that the increased vaccine supply will enable the city to expand its vaccination efforts.
This expansion includes allocating more doses to vaccination centers in shopping malls and establishing additional vaccination sites in barangays.
The city previously received 10,000 Pfizer doses in February for the same age group.
Currently, vaccinations for children aged 5 to 11 are ongoing in several malls, including Ayala Malls Capitol Central, SM City Bacolod, Robinsons Place Bacolod, CityMall Mandalagan, and Goldenfield.
Up to 100 children can be accommodated per mall vaccination venue, and the campaign has also been brought to schools like St. John's Institute, STI-Western Negros University, and Bacolod Tay Tung High School.
As of March 14, approximately 5,780 minors in this age group have received their first dose, and 808 have been fully vaccinated, according to the Department of Health-Western Visayas.
