DSWD includes barangay tanods in SAP

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has announced that barangay tanods will now be included as beneficiaries of the government's Social Amelioration Program (SAP).

This decision was made by DSWD Secretary Rolando Bautista due to the financial struggles faced by barangay tanods, who receive only meager honoraria compared to barangay health workers (BHWs).

BHWs are not eligible for the emergency subsidy as they are already covered by the Magna Carta for Health Workers, which provides them with significant benefits.

As of April 15, the DSWD has distributed P1.5 billion in emergency subsidies to 282,964 low-income families.

The DSWD has also disbursed P67.5 billion in SAP funds to 1,228 local government units (LGUs) for distribution to non-4Ps SAP beneficiaries.

To expedite the distribution of cash aid, the DSWD has revised its guidelines to allow for immediate distribution before the validation process.

The validation of beneficiaries will now be conducted after the payout, with the DSWD validating documents within 15 days of receiving them from LGUs.

The DSWD continues to provide relief assistance, including family food packs and medical and burial assistance through its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.

The department is also preparing to distribute grants to 4Ps beneficiaries without cash cards and pension to indigent senior citizens.
