An eight-member psychological first aid (PFA) team from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has arrived in Myanmar to provide counseling to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) affected by the March 28, 7.7 magnitude earthquake.
The team, which includes social welfare officers and a psychologist, arrived on April 11 and is undergoing orientation.
This humanitarian mission is part of the Philippine Rapid Response Deployment Team (RRDT), which also includes representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Health.
The RRDT, alongside Philippine embassy officials, facilitated the return of the ashes of two deceased Filipino teachers to their families.
DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao stated that the department is committed to supporting affected Filipinos and other survivors.
In addition to counseling for OFWs in Myanmar, the DSWD has initiated counseling sessions for the families of affected OFWs in the Philippines.
The DSWD has also extended P10,000 cash assistance to each family of the affected OFWs and is assessing the need for further medical aid for dependents of the deceased.
