DPWH chief asks NBI, biz groups for background checks on 14 execs

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon has requested the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and major business organizations to conduct independent background checks on at least 14 undersecretaries and assistant secretaries.

The DPWH chief stated that the vetting processes are part of the agency's commitment to implementing reforms and cleansing the department.

Letters were sent to NBI Director Jaime Santiago, Institute of Corporate Directors Chairperson Benedicta Baladad, Management Association of the Philippines President Alfredo Panlilio, and Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Consul Enunina Mangio.

This action follows allegations that some DPWH officials have connections with contractors.

The specific appointees include Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain and a list of other undersecretaries and assistant secretaries.
