DOLE lifts OFW deployment ban to Israel

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has lifted the temporary suspension on the deployment of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to Israel, following a recommendation from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

This decision comes after low-level incidents between the Israel Defense Force and Palestinian militant groups, and as Israel's economy slowly reopens.

DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III stated that Israel is in need of care workers and other service workers.

A total of 208 caregiver contracts have been forwarded to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) for processing.

Additionally, 23 work visas have been filed with the Israeli embassy in Taguig City, with 90 more applications being prepared this week.

Once visas are secured, POEA will proceed with processing overseas employment certificates and other travel documents.

The hiring of Filipino workers aligns with the bilateral agreement signed by the Philippines and Israel in 2018.

Secretary Bello signed the POEA order to officially lift the deployment stoppage on Wednesday afternoon.
