DOJ looking at transferring Espinosa to more secure detention facility

Alleged drug lord Kerwin Espinosa's transfer to another detention facility is being considered by Justice Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra.

Guevarra stated that Espinosa should be moved to a more secure facility due to the numerous cases he is facing, even though he was cleared of illegal drug charges by the Makati City RTC.

Cases are still pending against Espinosa before the Manila and Leyte courts, and the DOJ.

The Justice Secretary mentioned that commitment orders from the courts are needed for the transfer, as individuals awaiting trial are typically detained in BJMP facilities.

This consideration follows a reported foiled attempt by Espinosa to escape from the NBI detention center in Manila.

NBI OIC Director Eric B. Distor assured that security measures at the jail have been tightened with regular inspections of all facilities.
