DOH: Uniform border control key vs Delta variant

The Department of Health (DOH) emphasized that uniform border control is the most crucial measure to prevent community transmission of the Delta COVID-19 variant.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire stated that consistent implementation of border control across all regions is essential.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar assured that police front-liners will continue to strictly enforce health protocols, including monitoring quarantine control points, to prevent the spread of the Delta variant.

Eleazar mentioned the DOH's warning that patients infected with the Delta variant are more prone to longer hospital stays compared to other variants.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has also warned that the Delta variant is becoming the globally dominant variant of the disease.

The DOH highlighted that current border control measures have been effective in detecting the 13 known cases of the Delta variant in the Philippines.

Eleazar reiterated his appeal to the public to be more vigilant and comply with minimum health protocols in preventing the spread of the Delta variant.
