DOH records 69 firecracker injuries as of Dec 26

The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded a total of 69 firecracker-related injuries from December 22, 2024, to December 26, 2024.

This is a significant increase compared to the 43 injuries reported in the previous update.

Of the 69 cases, 59 (86 percent) were caused by illegal fireworks, particularly boga.

The majority of the injured, 51 cases, were active users of firecrackers.

The DOH warned against the negative effects of firecrackers such as blindness, burns, hearing loss, lung infection, amputation of body parts, and even death.

The DOH reminded the public to "look after young kids and keep them from using firecrackers especially, Boga, Five-Star, and Picolo, which are the top causes of FWRIs".
