DOH reports 101 firecracker injuries nationwide

The Department of Health (DOH) reported a total of 101 firecracker-related injuries nationwide as of December 27.

This figure is significantly higher than the 75 and 32 injuries reported during the same period in 2023 and 2022, respectively.

Eighty cases (79 percent) were caused by illegal fireworks such as boga, 5-star, and piccolo, with 65 cases (64 percent) involving active use of these firecrackers.

A total of 82 injured individuals were 19 years old and below, with 92 of the injured being male.

The DOH reiterated its reminder to avoid lighting firecrackers and instead opt for noise-making alternatives.

The sale of firecrackers or fireworks to minors is illegal, and the public should contact 911 or 1555 in cases of emergency.
