DOH reports 1,407 new COVID-19 cases

The Department of Health (DoH) reported 1,407 new COVID-19 infections on Thursday, bringing the total to 402,820 cases nationwide.

The country's death toll from the virus has reached 7,721 with 11 new fatalities, while recoveries increased by 211 to 362,417.

There are now 32,682 active COVID-19 cases, with the majority being mild or asymptomatic.

Davao City reported the highest number of new cases, followed by Eastern Samar, Rizal, Cavite, and Quezon province.

The DoH noted the removal of three duplicates and the reclassification of eight recovered cases as deaths, while 17 laboratories failed to submit data.

Globally, COVID-19 has infected about 52.5 million people and caused 1.3 million deaths.

The Philippines will not immediately fast-track the approval of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for local use, citing the need for trials conducted within the country.
