DOH-MMCHD steps up anti-dengue drive in schools, communities

The Department of Health-Metro Manila Center for Health Development (DOH-MMCHD) is intensifying its anti-dengue campaign in schools and communities throughout June, which is Dengue Awareness Month.

Regional Director Lester Tan emphasized that dengue prevention is a collective effort, urging community members to maintain cleanliness, join clean-up drives, and seek prompt medical attention for dengue symptoms.

The DOH-MMCHD is promoting the 'Taob, Taktak, Tuyo, at Takip' strategy, a four-step approach to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds and reduce the transmission of dengue and other mosquito-borne illnesses.

From January 1 to May 17, the National Capital Region (NCR) recorded 19,083 dengue cases, a significant 224% increase from the 5,889 cases reported during the same period last year.

School-aged children constitute the majority of the reported dengue cases in the NCR.

The current case fatality rate for dengue in the NCR stands at 0.27%.
