DOH logs 5,683 new COVID-19 cases, active cases at 66,060

The Department of Health (DOH) logged 5,683 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the total active cases to 66,060.

An additional 9,028 patients have recovered from the virus, pushing the country's overall recovery count to 984,210, which accounts for 92.2 percent of the total case tally of 1,067,892.

The DOH also reported 97 new deaths, raising the death toll to 17,622.

Of the active cases, 94.6 percent are mild, 1.7 percent asymptomatic, 1.5 percent severe, 0.98 percent moderate, and 1.2 percent critical.

Data from May 2 showed that 14.3 percent of 35,286 who were tested turned out positive for COVID-19.

DOH noted that some laboratories did not submit data, and 40 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Nationwide, 66 percent of ICU beds, 45 percent of isolation beds, 51 percent of ward beds, and 42 percent of ventilators dedicated to COVID-19 patients are in use.
