Philippines COVID-19 cases surpass 1 million, active cases drop

The Philippines logged 9,226 new COVID-19 cases on May 1, 2021, bringing the total infections to 1,046,653.

Active cases decreased to 72,248, with 94.9% mild, 1.7% asymptomatic, 1.4% severe, and 1.1% critical.

There were 10,809 new recoveries, bringing the total recoveries to 957,051.

The country's death toll rose to 17,354 with 120 new fatalities.

Thirty-three duplicate cases were removed from the total count, and 54 recoveries were reclassified as deaths.

Nationwide, 64% of intensive care unit beds are in use, and 44% of mechanical ventilators are occupied.

In the National Capital Region, 71% of ICU beds and 55% of mechanical ventilators are in use.
