DOH logs 16,044 new COVID-19 cases, 215 deaths

The Department of Health (DOH) announced on Sunday that the Philippines recorded 16,044 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of active cases to 125,900.

The country also reported 13,952 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 1,681,925.

The total case count has reached 1,839,635 since the start of the pandemic.

About 93.8 percent of these active cases are mild, 3.4 percent are asymptomatic, 0.6 percent are critical, 1.2 percent are severe, and 0.94 percent are moderate.

Some 215 new deaths were also reported, pushing the country's total COVID-19 fatalities to 31,180.

According to DOH data on Aug. 20, about 25.5 percent of 65,583 who were tested turned out positive for COVID-19.
