DOH-13 confirms first Covid-19 case in Caraga

The Department of Health in the Caraga Region (DOH-13) confirmed the first case of 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the region.

The patient is a 68-year-old male resident of Butuan City with pre-existing conditions, who arrived from Manila on March 12.

He was initially listed as a person under monitoring (PUM) and underwent home quarantine, but was later admitted as a patient under investigation (PUI) due to developing symptoms.

The patient is currently admitted at the Caraga Regional Hospital in Surigao City and is in stable condition.

DOH-13 director Jose R. Llacuna Jr. urged the public to take the situation seriously and follow health protocols, including physical distancing and hand hygiene.

Contact tracing has been initiated by the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) of DOH-13.

DOH-13 has also provided assistance to the Butuan City government in conducting rapid testing for PUIs, with samples sent for confirmatory RT-PCR testing.
