DHSUD distributes tarps, aid for Odette victims

The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has begun distributing tarpaulin sheets to provide temporary shelter for communities devastated by Typhoon Odette in Visayas and Mindanao.

In collaboration with USAID and the International Organization for Migration, DHSUD distributed 5,598 shelter-grade tarpaulin sheets to affected areas in Cebu, Bohol, Southern Leyte, and the CARAGA region.

Along with the Philippine Coast Guard, an additional 14,000 shelter-grade tarpaulin sheets, 250 modular tents, and 1,310 solar lamps were sent to affected areas.

The DHSUD has also allocated P100 million in financial aid for each typhoon-affected province, which local government units can use for construction materials and house repairs.

This initiative aligns with President Rodrigo Duterte's directive for the Department of Social Welfare and Development to swiftly procure temporary shelter materials for displaced families.

DHSUD Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario emphasized the urgency of these efforts to support families whose homes were damaged or destroyed by the typhoon.
