DFA targets 37,660 OFW repatriation in 3-4 weeks

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) targets to repatriate 37,660 stranded overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) within the next three to four weeks.

As of Friday, over 56,000 OFWs have already been repatriated, comprising 31,031 seafarers and 25,259 land-based workers.

Despite these efforts, DFA Undersecretary Sarah Lou Arriola noted that 88,000 distressed OFWs remain in Saudi Arabia, with only 6,342 repatriated so far.

Arriola mentioned that flight caps imposed by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) limit the number of OFWs that can be brought home daily.

The DFA is also facilitating the repatriation of over 300 OFW remains from Saudi Arabia, with burial deadline extensions being sought.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is coordinating with families for burial consent abroad and handling exit visa requirements with Saudi authorities.
