DA to lift pork SRP within 24 hours

The Department of Agriculture (DA) in the Philippines is planning to remove the maximum suggested retail price (MSRP) for pork products, with the lifting to be announced within 24 hours.

Agriculture Undersecretary Constante Palabrica stated that the DA will lift the current MSRP while studying ways to create a better mechanism for price control, aiming for a 'win-win' solution for the entire value chain.

The current MSRP set by the DA was P380 per kilogram for pork liempo, P350 per kilogram for pork kasim and pigue, and P300 per kilogram for sabit-ulo.

As of May 13, pork prices in Metro Manila ranged from PHP390 to PHP470/kg for liempo and PHP365 to PHP400/kg for kasim.

Palabrica cited the 2025 midterm elections and the threat of African Swine Fever (ASF) as key drivers of the demand and supply movement that kept pork prices higher.

The DA will also intensify the sale of supply from Food and Terminal Inc. (FTI) in partnership with Thailand's Charoen Pokphand Foods PLC (CP Foods).
