Comelec reinstates Marikina mayor's COC

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc has reinstated the certificate of candidacy for outgoing Marikina City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro.

This decision reverses an earlier ruling by the Comelec First Division that had cancelled his COC due to alleged material misrepresentation of his address.

Teodoro, who won the congressional race against Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III, stated the ruling affirmed the legitimacy of his COC.

He added that the poll body found no material misrepresentation and no abandonment of his domicile in Marikina's first district.

Teodoro maintained his connection, familial, social and political, has always been rooted in Barangay San Roque.

With the decision, Teodoro's proclamation as the duly elected representative for the district faces no further hindrance.

Teodoro secured 75,062 votes in the recent midterm elections, while Pimentel received 29,091.
