Comelec to hold emergency meeting on BSKE suspension

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is holding an emergency meeting next week to discuss suspending preparations for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

Comelec Chairperson George Garcia stated that the meeting will address the procurement of election paraphernalia, such as indelible ink, and voter registration activities.

This development follows the ratification by Congress of a bill postponing the BSKE.

Until a new law is passed, the Comelec had been preparing for the BSKE, but will now reassess the budget and specific procurement activities.

The commission will also reevaluate voter registration, which was scheduled from July 1 to 11, and may adjust other procurement processes for election materials.

Garcia mentioned that if the elections are reset to November 2026, voter registration could be extended, potentially occurring in October after the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Election.
