Comelec flags 21 gov't contractors for possible illegal poll donations

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has identified 21 government contractors who may have donated funds to eight candidates in the 2025 midterm elections.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia confirmed that an initial review of 42,000 statements of contributions and expenditures revealed these contributions.

While the poll body is still verifying the information with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Garcia clarified that one candidate might have received donations from multiple contractors.

The Comelec expects to finish its probe in less than two weeks.

Under the Omnibus Election Code, individuals or companies with government contracts are prohibited from making contributions to partisan political activities, and it is unlawful for anyone to accept such contributions.
