Comelec probes 6 senatorial bets over contractor donations

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is investigating six senatorial candidates from the 2025 May midterm elections for allegedly receiving campaign donations from contractors.

Comelec identified 26 contractors who donated to national and local candidates, with six senatorial bets receiving funds from this group.

The poll body is verifying with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) if these contractors were engaged in government projects, as contractors for government projects are prohibited from contributing to candidates.

Four of the six senatorial candidates who received such donations have won seats in the recent elections.

Both winning and losing candidates face potential sanctions, including imprisonment and perpetual disqualification from holding public office, if found guilty of violating the Omnibus Election Code.
