Comelec confirms fake news on disqualification of Makabayan bloc, Neri Colmenares

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) confirmed that reports of a resolution disqualifying the Makabayan bloc and senatorial candidate Neri Colmenares from Eleksyon 2022 are fake news.

Comelec acting spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco stated that the alleged resolution is fake and spurious, and coordinated with the Commissioners falsely reported to have signed the document.

The Makabayan bloc described the disinformation as a "desperate act by anti-democratic and fascists minions of NTF-ELCAC" and urged the Comelec to immediately debunk the lie and hold those spreading it accountable.

A fake document dated May 6, bearing the Comelec logo and riddled with grammatical errors, falsely claimed the disqualification was due to alleged involvement with the CPP-NPA-NDF.

The Makabayan bloc believes this fake news aims to sabotage the elections and tarnish the integrity of the Comelec and its commissioners.

The Comelec urged the public not to believe the circulating information and noted that a fake press release with Laudiangco's name and incorrect designation was also issued.

An investigation into the origin of the fake news will be conducted with the assistance of various government agencies, including the PNP, AFP, PCG, and NBI.
