Capas, Tarlac LGU cooperates on Wuhan repatriates quarantine site

The municipal government of Capas, Tarlac has begun cooperating with the national government regarding the use of New Clark City's Athletes' Village as a quarantine site for Filipinos repatriated from Wuhan, China.

The initial objection from Capas Mayor Reynaldo Catacutan stemmed from the local government unit not being consulted, which caused panic and misinformation among residents.

Following a meeting with the Department of Health (DOH) and explanations from national officials, the Capas local government's fears have been allayed.

Mayor Catacutan clarified that his opposition was an initial reaction and not a final stand, and has since pledged full support for the national endeavor.

The Capas Information Office announced that dinner, hygiene kits, and towels will be provided to the repatriates, and Mayor Catacutan is sponsoring meals for the police personnel deployed at the site.

Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Epimaco Densing III had previously warned that local officials could face charges for resisting national government decisions on matters of national concern.
