BFAR, DA partner to bring fish products to Kadiwa market

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR-7) in Central Visayas has partnered with the Department of Agriculture in Region 7 (DA-7) to make fishery products accessible at the Kadiwa market in Mandaue City.

This initiative aims to support local fish vendors who faced difficulties selling their products due to lockdown and enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) measures implemented because of COVID-19.

The Kadiwa market, located at the DA-7 regional office in Estancia, Mandaue City, is open every Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering primary agricultural goods at low prices.

Selected fish vendors from Cebu City, in collaboration with the Cebu City Government - Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF), will sell their catch at the Kadiwa Center.

BFAR-7 will provide a reefer van to transport fish products from Cebu to Mandaue starting April 16.

The collaboration is a direct response to the challenges faced by fish vendors in Pasil, Cebu City, who reported slow trade and difficulties in transporting their goods.

This initiative not only addresses food availability and accessibility but also ensures affordability by having stakeholders agree to sell products at suggested retail prices.
