BFAR launches mobile fish market to help local fishermen

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resource (BFAR-8) launched "Love us, Lab-as, Fish For Every Juan ni Ani at Kita" to help local fishermen sell their products directly to consumers in non-coastal areas.

This initiative serves as a platform to connect fisherfolk with consumers, ensuring access to fresh fish as an alternative protein source, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program utilizes a mobile fish market, or 'Kadiwa On Wheels,' which will tour eight non-coastal municipalities in Leyte over three weeks.

In its initial stop in Sta. Fe, Leyte, BFAR-8 successfully sold 700 kilos of various fresh fish and 2,000 pieces of dried flying fish.

The fish sold were sourced from marine cages in Tacloban City and from Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

BFAR-8 reported high demand and plans to continue visiting other barangays in Sta. Fe.

All personnel involved in the initiative are adhering to social distancing and proper hygiene protocols, including wearing face masks.
