BARMM asks NBI to probe SAP aid anomalies

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has requested the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate alleged anomalies in the distribution of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) cash aid.

Complaints suggest that some local village officials, possibly in collusion with social workers, have been withholding portions of the PHP5,000 SAP aid intended for indigent families.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) is leading the probe into SAP distribution anomalies, with the CIDG-Bacolod receiving 14 complaints in six villages.

These investigations are in response to numerous reports nationwide of qualified beneficiaries failing to receive cash aid during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Charges for Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices and violation of the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act may be filed against erring officials and social workers.

President Rodrigo Duterte has previously warned village officials against misusing SAP funds and offered a reward for proof of corruption.

The CIDG-BARMM is also accepting complaints regarding SAP distribution anomalies and assures confidentiality for informants.
