23 barangay officials face raps over cash aid anomalies

Twenty-three barangay officials are facing criminal charges for alleged anomalies in the distribution of cash aid under the government's emergency subsidy program.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has filed 12 criminal cases against these officials, accusing them of violating the Bayanihan to Heal As One Act and the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.

The Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP CIDG) filed the cases, with four more expected in the coming days.

Additionally, around 110 other officials are under investigation following complaints of corruption in the multibillion-peso cash distribution program.

DILG Secretary Eduardo Año stated that these cases serve as a warning to other officials as the government prepares to distribute the second tranche of aid.
