PNP forms teams to probe officials over SAP anomalies

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has formed special investigating teams to probe local government officials suspected of anomalies in the distribution of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) cash aid.

PNP chief Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa ordered police commanders to identify and investigate officials involved in irregular SAP distribution, citing a case in Hagonoy, Bulacan where a barangay councilor allegedly took a 50 percent cut.

These teams will examine disbursement records, receipts, and sworn statements from beneficiaries to uncover alleged irregularities.

President Duterte had previously warned local officials against corruption involving the SAP and offered a P30,000 reward for information leading to the case-build up against officials over SAP anomalies.

As of Wednesday, two more barangay officials are being investigated: one in Bicol for distributing SAP forms to unqualified recipients, and another in Western Visayas for including unqualified relatives.

The Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM) will oversee the investigation's progress to ensure the successful prosecution of those found guilty.
