Automated system speeds up OFW repatriation

Around 600 repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from Barbados and Dubai were sent home within a three-day processing time, a significant improvement from previous backlogs.

Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. stated that an automated system and expanded testing capabilities helped fast-track the quarantine procedures, including COVID-19 test results and medical clearance certificates.

This three-day processing time is a considerable improvement from the one-month ordeal faced by 24,000 OFWs in May, which was attributed to the system's inability to handle large volumes of workers.

To further decongest Manila, alternative airports such as Clark International Airport and Mactan International Airport are now operational, with more airports set to open soon.

OFWs no longer undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine period upon arrival as local government units have their own health protocols for their safe return.

The national government, through programs like the OWWA reintegration program, will provide necessary assistance, including immediate cash, livelihood, and education aid, for re-employment opportunities.
