Atong Ang, Gretchen Barretto to be invited in missing sabungeros probe

The House committee on human rights will invite gambling tycoon Atong Ang and his former partner, actress Gretchen Barretto, to attend its inquiry into the case of the missing "sabungeros" (cockfighting aficionados).

Ang and Barretto, along with their accusers the Patidongan brothers and 18 police officers allegedly involved, are also expected to be invited to the probe.

Whistleblower Julie "Dondon" Patidongan claimed that Ang was the mastermind behind the disappearances, alleging the missing sabungeros were killed for engaging in match-fixing and their remains were dumped in Taal Lake.

Both Ang and Barretto have denied the allegations.

However, Ang, Barretto, and other suspects have been issued an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order (ILBO).

The Department of Justice will begin its preliminary investigation on the case, with over 60 subpoenas to be received by respondents next week.
