Alice Guo opts not to post bail for graft charges, detained at Camp Crame

Dismissed Bamban Mayor Alice Guo opted not to post bail for two graft charges filed against her in Capas, Tarlac, and is currently detained at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Her lawyer explained that posting bail would not serve its purpose due to an existing arrest warrant from the Senate.

Guo arrived in Manila early morning of Friday, Sept. 6, following her deportation after her arrest in Tangerang City in Indonesia.

She later underwent booking procedures and was taken to Capas, Tarlac where she is facing two counts of graft charges before being returned to Camp Crame.

This detention room is described as an ordinary, white-walled cell with a single bed, a small table, chairs, and a plastic bucket in the toilet, and was previously occupied by former senator Leila de Lima.

According to national police spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo, Guo slept well and appeared to be comfortable inside, and she is being treated like an ordinary detainee with no special privileges such as a cellphone or airconditioning.

The PNP spokesperson assured that Guo would not receive special treatment, and her lawyer stated that the former mayor feels safe in PNP custody.

The decision on whether Guo will attend the Senate hearing now rests with the Tarlac court, which currently holds jurisdiction over her.
