Alas Pilipinas loses to Tunisia in 2025 FIVB Men's World Championship debut

Alas Pilipinas, the Philippine men's national volleyball team, made its debut at the 2025 FIVB Men's World Championship, hosted in the Philippines.

The team, ranked No. 82, is led by veterans Bryan Bagunas, who is also the captain and returning from injury, and Marck Espejo.

In their opening match against Tunisia at the Mall of Asia Arena, Alas Pilipinas lost with set scores of 13-25, 17-25, and 23-25.

Setter Owa Retamar described the experience as special and emotional, admitting that nerves and the pressure of being hosts may have contributed to their slow start.

Captain Bryan Bagunas also shared his excitement for his return to international play after a year-long recovery from injury, feeling the support of the home crowd.

Jade Disquitado was noted for his performance despite the loss, and Alas Pilipinas began their campaign with a 0-1 record in Pool A.

The team is scheduled to face Egypt next on Tuesday.
