AFP supports Duterte's ceasefire with CPP-NPA

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) supports President Duterte's unilateral ceasefire with the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA), which took effect from March 19 to April 15, 2020.

AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Felimon Santos Jr. stated that the ceasefire shows the President's willingness to go beyond usual means to ensure troops assisting in the COVID-19 response are not attacked and public needs are met.

While supporting the truce, Santos also directed troops to maintain guarded optimism, as the AFP will not be deterred by potential attacks from the Communist Terrorist Group, recalling past instances where the NPA disregarded similar government good faith gestures.
