AFP: CPP members must face criminal charges for landmine attack

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) stated that disciplinary action alone is insufficient for the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) members responsible for a landmine attack in Masbate City that resulted in the deaths of two individuals.

AFP spokesperson Major General Edgard Arevalo urged the CPP to surrender the perpetrators, emphasizing the severity of the crime which violated multiple laws.

Arevalo highlighted that the attack by the New People's Army (NPA) contravened the Revised Penal Code, the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020, and the Philippine Act on Crimes Against International Humanitarian Law, Genocide, and Other Crimes Against Humanity.

Previously, CPP spokesperson Marco Valbuena had asserted that their party committees were capable of addressing the errors made by the NPA unit involved in the incident.
